Set one of two - 90's dance anthems.
With a few private parties at which I've been booked to play (broadly) 'anthemic' house music - and summer just around the corner - I've been going back into the archives to think about those early evening tracks when folks are perhaps not quite ready to dance. The images of people on the beach at Cafe del Mar watching the sunset always remind me of two or three key tracks from the early 1990s, but this particular one personifies it for me.
As part of The Gap Festival in Goring and Streatley, I will present a brief history of hip hop and club DJing and will discuss the absolute basics of the craft (e.g. blending, beat-matching, tempo-matching, looping and scratching) whilst touching on some slightly more advanced skills such as use of filters and effects, remixing/mash-ups and harmonic mixing techniques.
I’ll also address the use of vinyl, CDs and digital – with a greater focus on the digital tools used today from a both a software and hardware perspective, along with various online resources in terms of download sites, mix sites and training/tools.
Aimed at those that already have an interest or those considering getting involved, this is an entry level workshop with demonstrations of all techniques described; it is focused at a wide age group from teens through to those that may even remember Acid House!
At the end of the workshop, those attending will have the chance to try digital DJing themselves and ask for advice or pose any questions.
More details to follow - for now, this is all I can say. Have also considered a workshop on an "Introduction to (Digital) DJing" - if there was enough (i.e. at least one) interested persons!
I've been invited back again after last year! It's a fancy dress night ("Disney") and is likely to run from 8pm to about 1am - so a mammoth set! I'll be playing a mix of cooler disco tracks, some of the better tunes from the 80's, 90's dance anthems (of course) and plenty more dancey tracks from then to the present day - and a few other surprises no doubt.
Not yet decided on the local charity that I will donate my fee to, but certainly have a few worthy-cause ideas. Hoping for a big turnout - the more the merrier - and the more that goes to charity is my plan.
Fancy dress-wise, I'm considering adding a pair of Mickey Mouse ears to my headphones in a Deadmau5 style.
Certainly not my typical event of choice, but a chance to hopefully see my sons think they have a mildly cool Dad. Two sets - one for the infants, one for the juniors. desperately trying to work out what the juniors will want! Pretty sure the infants will just have "Gangnam Style" on repeat. At best, I'll sneak in something featuring Jess Glynne...
